Surrey First Peoples Guide for Newcomers translated in Punjabi, Tagalog and Mandarin

posted on September 29, 2021

Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) has released three new translated versions of the Surrey First Peoples Guide for Newcomers. Ensuring the guide would be available and accessible to all was always a high priority within the planning and development stages. The need for first language translated versions of the guide reflects the reality of BC’s prospering diversity. So far, the guide has been translated in Punjabi, Tagalog, and Mandarin, all of which can be found on the newly adapted Surrey LIP website.

This resource guide addresses misconceptions about Indigenous people and provides clear information about the historic and current realities they experience. It aims to uncover hard truths, construct a foundation for shared understanding, and to continue the important work of building solidarity between the Indigenous and newcomer communities in Surrey.

If you are interested in receiving more information about the work being done at the Surrey LIP, as well as the release of further translated versions of the guide, email them at surreylip@dcrs.ca
