First look at BC refugee numbers

We’re getting a first look at the numbers of refugees coming to B-C, and where exactly they’ll be placed.

Data obtained by CKNW shows the first 204 Syrian refugees to arrive on the West Coast.

New Westminster and Vancouver lead the way with 52 privately-sponsored refugees expected to arrive in both cities.

Data obtained by CKNW shows the first 204 Syrian refugees to arrive on the West Coast.

New Westminster and Vancouver lead the way with 52 privately-sponsored refugees expected to arrive in both cities.

Burnaby is next with 24 privately-sponsored refugees.

14 will be coming on the “Blended Visa office-referred” program, which grants six months of income support from the feds.

And a single government-assisted refugee will come to Surrey and receive a year’s worth of income support.

Elsewhere in Canada, Montreal is privately-sponsoring 2,400 refugees, which is the most of any city in Canada.

Toronto is second with just under 1,500.
