Compassionate volunteers step up to the plate to help respond to COVID-19

Spotlighting three volunteers who are making a difference in their communities during the COVID-19 crisis: in time for National Volunteer Week 2020 (April 19-25).

A number of Canadian immigrants and newcomers are signing up to lend a hand in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, contributing their know-how to a wide range of initiatives across the country.

Meet three compassionate Canadian immigrants in Toronto: Sri Lankan restaurant owners of Little India who are giving away free meals; a Chinese couple who have spent a month’s worth of salary on surgical masks for hospital workers; and an Afghan-Canadian who is working with the Syrian-Canadian Foundation to produce educational videos in Arabic on mental health and well being during these times.
